How health insurance claims work at the hospital

The usual path from hospital admission to a settled claim — what VeWell helps with, and what stays with your insurer or TPA.

Two main schemes: cashless and reimbursement

With cashless (guarantee) cover, the hospital bills your insurer for covered costs. With reimbursement, you pay first, then submit a claim with proof of payment and medical documents. Which scheme applies depends on your policy — not on any hospital network claimed by VeWell.

Documents you'll typically need

Requirements vary by policy and hospital. A checklist that’s often asked for:

  • Cashless (guarantee): insurance card/membership proof, ID, referral letter if required, pre-admission form if any.
  • Reimbursement: original receipt, itemized bill, medical summary, insurer claim form, copies of test results if requested.
  • Keep a copy of every document from the start.

The general claims process

For cashless claims, the path usually starts with membership verification at registration, then guarantee approval from the insurer before or during treatment, ending with the hospital billing the insurer. For reimbursement, it starts after you pay, then you submit a complete claim; the insurer verifies before releasing reimbursement.

Common reasons claims get delayed

Claims are often delayed by incomplete documents, conditions outside the policy, or data errors (name, policy number, dates). Checking completeness before you submit, and confirming coverage before a major procedure, can reduce that risk.

What VeWell helps with — and what we don’t

VeWell accompanies you at the hospital and on claim paperwork. The boundary is clear:

  • We help with: document completeness, step order, hospital coordination, accompanying questions to admissions/your insurer.
  • We don’t: sell policies, guarantee claim approval, give diagnoses, or claim unsigned hospital partnerships.
